7 Movies to Watch While Babysitting

By Alyssa Laffitte on September 30, 2017

A great way to keep kids entertained while you are babysitting is to put on a great movie. Many kids’ movies, though, will drive you crazy. So here is a list of kid-friendly movies that you, even as a college student babysitter, will enjoy.

Of course, check with a parent to make sure that these movies are appropriate for the children to watch.

Movies for Elementary School-Aged Children (7-12 years old)

Old School Disney Channel Original Movies

Remember those Disney Channel Original Movies we grew up watching? Movies like The Cheetah Girls, High School Musical, Read It and WeepLemonade Mouth, and Starstruck are great for elementary school-aged children. They will keep the kids busy while you reminisce about when you were their age and watched these movies for the first time.

Marvel Movies

Marvel movies are my personal favorite. Not only will the kids enjoy seeing their favorite superheroes kick villain butt, but you will also enjoy the awesome storylines and special effects. Although these movies are known for being family friendly, they do have some violence and language, so double check with the parents before you put on one of these!

Movies for Kindergarten-Aged Children (3-6 years old)

Any Disney Princess movie

Disney Princess movies are classics for a reason! The beautiful animation and the catchy songs will keep you entertained as much as they’ll keep the kids entertained. All these movies are great, but I’d recommend the original ones, like Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. (Some young children may be scared of the villains; keep that in mind before watching!)

The Secret Life of Pets

As a dog owner, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie about what pets do when their owners aren’t home. This movie is cute and funny, and definitely worth watching.

Minions

If you are not tired of the minions just yet, you and the kids could watch the movie that tells the origin story. (Spoiler alert: there is a pleasant surprise toward the end of the movie that involves a familiar face if you’ve seen the Despicable Me movies.)

Movies for Younger Children (0-2 years old)

Pooh’s Grand Adventure

Winnie the Pooh’s cuteness is a good enough reason to watch this movie with the infants you’re babysitting.

Curious George

Did you ever read the Curious George books when you were a kid? This movie is just as sweet and cute as the books it is based on.

If you are babysitting and you want to keep both yourself and the kids entertained, pop in one of these movies. They are not only cute and age appropriate for the kids, but they are enjoyable for older viewers, like you, too.
